Queen's Birthday Weekend 2019 at Rotorua

  • In predicted very cold weather 25 members dressed in winter woollies had soup and buns for lunch to begin the club's annual North Island social get together. While Executive members met to conduct club business the remainder explored Rotorua. All met at the Fat Dog for drinks and evening meal.
  • Next morning maps were handed out directing cars through Rotorua to views at Titiotonga and on to Waimangu for coffee, then a drive through beautiful native bush to a boat waiting at the wharf. Entertained by an interesting commentary the skipper took us through the history of Waimangu, Lake Rotomahana, the Pink and White Terraces and the Tarawera explosion and even got up close to an active blowhole. After lunch at a local café we drove through the Waikite Valley and passed the Ngakuru rural settlement.
  • Back in Rotorua we assembled at the Pig and Whistle pub for social time and an meal.
A very relaxed and enjoyable weekend enjoyed by all. Thanks must go to Local members Alan and Lynn for organising the event.
